Terron Armstead has high praise for his successor, Patrick Paul: 'It's his time'

Terron Armstead thinks the Miami Dolphins are in good hands with Patrick Paul taking his place. At a retirement party Saturday night, Armstead had glowing praise for the 2024 second-round pick who is in line to be his successor as the Dolphins' left tackle.

“He’s the guy,” Armstead said of Paul, via David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “It’s his time. He knows it. He’ll be ready. He’s a worker. He’s talented. You put those two together, you’ll have success.

“Don’t know exactly how his career will play out. Everything plays a part. Patrick Paul will do his part. He’ll work his butt off. He’s going to use his talents, abilities, his strengths, and everything that happens after that, will be out of his control. Everything he can control, he’s going to do his part.”

Paul, the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, made three starts and played over 400 snaps as a rookie. The former Houston Cougars tackle struggled in his first year, though. He received a 44.9 grade from PFF -- way behind the 89.4 grade that Armstead received.

Still, the Dolphins have been optimistic about the 6'7 lineman's future.

“I think each week he gets better and he really is improving," Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith said of Paul in January. "He’s been able to keep building, getting better in pass protection and with his run fundamentals. So it’s a guy who is really using his time to grow and we’re excited about him really short-term and long-term for how he’s been able to grow.”
