A gold money-shooting gun was part of a Cincinnati Reds' dugout celebration during the team's 14-3 win Monday night against the Texas Rangers, and Fanduel Sports Network's Jim Day explained that the money gun was a tribute to manager Terry Francona.
"Terry Francona loves to play cards," Day explained during the broadcast. "He has an affinity for cribbage. You might even find him at a casino now and then. So this is the players completely playing off of their manager, of lettin' the bills fly. And don't be surprised if you don't see another prop along the way, maybe a slot machine. They're just having fun. And Francona, and I asked him about this today, if it's OK to say this on the air, he said, 'Listen, a team that gambles together, wins together."
Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz made their way high-fiving through the dugout when the money-shooter was used.
"He brings a lot of energy - good energy," De La Cruz told Day of playing with McLain, during a postgame interview on the field. "Good vibes in the clubhouse, in the dugout and in the field. The whole game we're talking a lot. And that makes me more confident. And I believe in him too."
