LATTA — Junior Taylor Cotanny came up in a big spot for the Latta High School softball team during an impromptu matchup with local foe Coalgate Thursday night at Swanson Field.
All Cotanny did was deliver a big hit.
Cotanny’s two-RBI single to center field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Latta an 11-10 walk-off victory over the Lady Wildcats.
Coach Jeremy Bate’s bunch, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, improved to 11-4, while 17th-rated Coalgate dipped to 9-8.
The Lady Panthers are now off for prom weekend and return to action Tuesday at Tishomingo.
Coalgate is scheduled to host old rival Atoka on Monday and Class B No. 1 Stuart on Tuesday.
Latta 11, Coalgate 10
Latta trailed 10-8 before scoring a single run in the bottom of the sixth that set up the big base knock from Taylor Cotanny in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lady Panthers loaded the bases with one out in the sixth frame on consecutive base hits from Taryn Cotanny, Jayse Smith and Rylee Jones. Savannah Senkel then knocked in a run with a base hit to left field that got the Lady Panthers within 10-9. However, Latta left the bases full.
Stacie Williams got Latta started in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out base hit to center field and Ayzia Booth followed with a walk.
Taylor Cotanny then drove in a pair of runs with her walk-off single later in the inning to help Latta secure the win.
Sister Taryn Cotanny had a nice day at the plate. She finished 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and three RBIs. Audrey Forshay also hit a solo home run for the hosts and finished 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Rylee Jones also ripped a solo bomb and went 2-for-4 in Latta’s 16-hit attack. Senkel finished 2-for-3 with. a walk and scored a run and Stacie Williams also had two hits for the home team.
Kieranie Williams hit a double and knocked in one run for Latta and Kymber Davis went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Natalie Delozier paced an 18-hit Coalgate offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Myca Farris went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Olivia Nelson, Jojo Lambert and Adrian Childers all contributed to hits apiece for Coalgate. Nelson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Lambert went 2-for-4 and scored once and Childers ended up 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Taci Lee and Nevaeh Parker both hit doubles for the Lady Wildcats.
