Superior Bantam A team wins Wisconsin state title
Mar. 20—DELAFIELD, Wis. — The Superior Bantam A team captured the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association's 14U 1A state championship held in February at Naga-Waukee Park Ice Arena in Delafield, Wisconsin.
The Bantam A state title is Superior's first in 23 years.
The Spartans entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and rolled over No. 8 Stevens Point in the quarterfinals with a 9-2 win. Ryan Nelson led Superior with six points on four goals and two assists. Keagan Tikkanen (2), Michael Olson, Thoren Netland and Gavin Modeen also added goals.
Goaltender Miles Scharte turned aside all 19 shots in a 5-0 shutout victory over Fox Valley, pushing the Spartans to the championship game. Nelson tallied a hat trick for Superior and went on to lead all skaters in the tournament with eight goals
Superior defeated Verona 3-1 in the championship game with goals by Tikkanen, Nelson and William Kyrola. Scharte finished with 19 saves.
