For the fourth time in franchise history, the Lincoln Stars are Anderson Cup champions.
Lincoln clinched the USHL’s best regular-season record Saturday night with an overtime win in Madison, 4-3. The Stars are currently 43-15-2 and have 88 points – five more than Sioux Falls and seven ahead of Dubuque and Youngstown. The Stars also own the USHL’s most goals (266) while allowing the league’s second-fewest (161).
Dashel Oliver scored 2:25 into overtime while Yan Shostak made 24 saves, earning his 28th win of the season. Oliver scored twice in the win while Etienne Lessard and Gio Digiulian also found the twine. The Stars have won three straight and are 7-2-1 over their past 10, and Lincoln will finish the regular season with a 16-2 record against the Eastern Conference.
Lincoln had already clinched a first-round bye and has now guaranteed home ice throughout the postseason. Lincoln last hoisted the Clark Cup in 2003, which coincides with Lincoln’s last Anderson Cup.
Lincoln won its previous three Anderson Cups in a four-year stretch, doing so in 1999-00, 2000-01 and 2002-03. The Stars went 41-16-1, 43-7-6 and 37-14-9 in those respective seasons, and their 43 wins are tied for the most in franchise history.
Lincoln will close out the regular season next weekend against Tri-City. Friday’s game will be played at the Ice Box with Saturday’s game following in Kearney. Both games will be streamed on Flo Hockey.
