Sophie Cunningham reflects on the Chiefs' influence during her career at Missouri

This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham at the Stumble Inn in New York City during a March Madness watch party as part of her partnership with Quest Nutrition. As Cunningham prepares to enter her seventh season in the WNBA, she reflected on her Chiefs fandom and how the team's rise to dominance impacted her college experience at the University of Missouri."Everyone always thinks that I'm a bandwagon fan," Cunningham said. "I'm like, 'No, I grew up in Columbia, Missouri, It was either the Rams or the Chiefs.' We've always had close family, friends, and people we know who coached for the Chiefs, and so we've always been Chiefs fans. So for us to kind of do our thing, the past six, seven years have been freaking awesome. This year's Super Bowl was rough, but we have to give other people a chance to win now and then to keep people interested."Before starting her WNBA career in 2019, Cunningham was a standout player for the University of Missouri. During her four-year college career, she earned three First-team All-SEC honors and was a third-team All-American as a Senior. Cunningham recalled life on campus and in the community during the beginning of the Chiefs' Super Bowl dynasty."It was a fun time to be all in college together," Cunningham explained. "It was a fun time because, for a lot of my friends, tailgating is a huge thing in the Midwest, and we have some of the best tailgating up for the Chiefs games. So people go up there on Sundays, do their thing, come back. I think it's just more the memories and the way that sports and the teams have brought our community and our state together. I think people nowadays create something good and positive that everyone can gather around and be a part of. And so for us, with them winning, how they are in the dynasty and the legacy they're leaving, I think there's more in them, but I think it's something good. And so it was always fun to be on campus. It is always fun to have house parties and watch the Chiefs, and it is so fun."For the first time, Quest Nutrition offered Dirty Nachos and Cheesy Chicken Bites, two of its most popular recipes from Questnutrition.com, via the "Questified" bar menu for the many fans who attended. Cunningham shows her love for the product in a series of viral videos.
