Milan fought back from a disastrous start to hold Fiorentina 2-2 in a thrilling encounter, but the point apiece does little for either of their European ambitions.
This was a head-to-head for Europe, as the Rossoneri went into the weekend in ninth place, four points behind their opponents. Fresh off Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final 1-1 draw with Inter, they had Alex Jimenez suspended, plus Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Emerson Royal injured, but Tijjani Reijnders shook off a stomach bug to start. Joao Felix and Santiago Gimenez were benched for the second game in a row. The Viola beat Juventus and Atalanta to surge up the table, missing Robin Gosens, Andrea Colpani and Edoardo Bove, while Milan-owned Yacine Adli had barely featured since an ankle injury in early February.

Fiorentina took the lead when Yunus Musah gave it away cheaply in the final third, allowing Albert Gudmundsson to break down the left and roll across for a Moise Kean tap-in, but in trying to intercept, Malick Thiaw accidentally bundled it over the line himself.

Moments later, it was 2-0, because the Rolando Mandragora cross to the back post was knocked down by Dodo and this time Kean did get there before Fikayo Tomori to volley in from five yards.

Rafael Leao should’ve got Milan back into it on 20 minutes when he ran onto a ball over the top, but rather than go for goal, he flashed a ball across that was hit too hard for Tammy Abraham or Musah to get there.

Gudmundsson forced a save out of Mike Maignan, but Milan got back into the game when Abraham shrugged off Dodo, completed a give and go with Christian Pulisic to sweep home from eight yards.
