See who PFF named as the Rams' best trade asset ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft
Trades are inevitable in football, albeit more sparse than in other sports. But when a team has a surplus at a position or can't come to an agreement on a contract extension, a trade is the easiest exit strategy.
The Rams completed one trade this offseason already after sending offensive lineman Jonah Jackson to the Chicago Bears, but decided not to trade away Matthew Stafford and couldn't find a trade partner for receiver Cooper Kupp before releasing him.
Pro Football Focus' Bradley Locker put together a list of each team's best trade chip heading into the 2025 NFL Draft in April. And while none of the Rams' players are rumored to be on the trade block at the moment, that doesn't mean other teams won't reach out about a player they're interested in.
For the Rams, Locker tabbed safety Kamren Curl as the team's best trade asset this offseason. The reasons were simple: Los Angeles could and should find an upgrade at the position in the draft or free agency, and Curl is a solid, young prospect who could fetch a solid return this offseason.
"The Rams can’t afford to trot out the exact same personnel from a secondary that ranked 19th in PFF coverage grade in 2024," Fowler wrote. "With other burgeoning options at safety, some of the team’s veterans could be on the trade block.
"In his first season with the Rams, Curl registered a 63.7 PFF coverage grade and a 68.5 PFF run-defense grade. Yet, his PFF overall grade (68.4) trailed rookie Kamren Kinchens (71.5). It will be tough to keep Kinchens off the field in 2025, and Curl has just one year left on his contract."
Those options could come in free agency, with a veteran like Justin Simmons still sitting on the open market. The draft might be the more likely area, though, as safeties like Malaki Starks, Nick Emmanwori and Xavier Watts could fall to the Rams' No. 26 pick.
There are no reports surrounding a potential Curl trade anytime soon. But that could change in the coming weeks depending on what the Rams do ahead of the 2025 season.
