SEC Baseball Friday Night Recap: LSU rolls, Alabama beats A&M in thriller
SEC baseball opened up conference play on Friday night. We got several ranked matchups, including a top 10 battle between Florida and Tennessee.
The SEC is used to being the best conference in baseball, but with Texas and Oklahoma joining the league, it's getting even stronger. According to D1Baseball's top 25, the top four teams in the nation all belong to the SEC. Of the top 13, eight are SEC teams.
LSU got off to a 1-0 start in conference play as the Tigers won their 13th straight game, making it LSU's longest win streak since the 2023 squad won 13 in a row. That team went on to win a national title.
Elsewhere, Tennessee notched a win over No. 7 Florida and a top 25 match between Texas A&M and Alabama came down to the final inning.
Here's a full recap of Friday night's action across the South.

Tennessee entered conference play undefeated and after one game, the Vols remain unblemished with a 5-3 win over Florida.
This game was 1-1 after four innings and it turned into a bullpen battle with neither starter pitching deep. Vols reliever Nate Snead got it done, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings and getting the final out.
Tennessee got two hits and two runs from Dean Curley as the top of the order. Tennessee didn't home, but walked six times and played good situational baseball.
A home run from UF outfielder Blake Cyr was the Gators' only extra base hit on the night. The Gators had eight singles, but a lack of power meant Florida couldn't cash in.

In front of a packed Starkville crowd, No. 11 Texas got the win in its SEC debut. Mississippi State led 4-2 after five innings before the lineups traded runs in the sixth inning. Down 5-3 entering the seventh, the Longhorns came to life.
Texas plated five runs in the seventh frame, highlighted by a three-run home run by third baseman Casey Borba. Texas catcher Ryan Galvan was also a difference maker in this one, driving in three runs on the night.
Mississippi State made a push in the bottom of the ninth, cutting the deficit to one, but Texas reliever Dylan Volantis got the final out and the save as Texas won 8-7.
Auburn gets strong performance from Samuel Dutton

No. 25 Auburn hosted No. 16 Vanderbilt and seven innings of two-run baseball from Auburn starter Samuel Dutton got the job done. Dutton allowed six hits but walked just one batter, limiting traffic on the basepaths. Auburn releiver Carson Myers followed Dutton with two scoreless innings to end the game.
Vandy starter JD Thompson didn't have the same luck as Dutton. Auburn tagged Thompson for five runs in five innings.
Auburn notched just one extra base hit on the night but the Tigers' pitching did its job.

The underwhelming start to 2025 for No. 19 Texas A&M continued as the Aggies dropped their SEC opener to No. 17 Alabama. The Crimson Tide broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth with a two-run inning. Back-to-back home runs with two outs proved to be the difference.
Brennen Norton and Kade Snell were the heroes for the Tide with the bottom of the lineup coming through. Four separate players homered for Alabama on the night.
Alabama starter Zane Adams allowed just one earned run in 5.2 innings. A&M starter Ryan Prager gave the Aggies seven innings, but allowed four runs.
Around the conference
- No. 13 Ole Miss beat No. 3 Arkansas, plating 10 runs on the night. The Rebels tallied 14 hits.
- Kentucky played it tight No. 4 Georgia for five innings, but the Dawgs' lineup posted crooked numbers in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. UGA RF Robbie Burnett drove in four runs.
- No. 12 Oklahoma played its first conference game as a member of the SEC. The Sooners notched an 8-5 win over South Carolina.
