Seahawks sign WR/KR Steven Sims
The Seattle Seahawks continue to be active in the free agent market, focusing their efforts on signing depth pieces. Their latest transaction came on Tuesday afternoon, as they signed veteran journeyman wide receiver and kick returner Steven Sims.
Sims has bounced around this league ever since signing as an undrafted free agent with Washington following the 2019 NFL draft. He was most recently with the Baltimore Ravens for one year in 2024, just missing out playing with current Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald when he was their defensive coordinator.

Sims' signing is most likely a move to bolster Seattle's kick return situation. As a receiver, he has not caught a regular season pass since 2023, and only had one reception in the playoffs last year. In his career as a receiver, Sims has 78 receptions for 704 yards and five touchdowns. Where he has made a name for himself is in the return game, where he has 2,023 total return yards (kicks and punts) and a touchdown - including a 67-yard punt return touchdown for the Texans in the playoffs.
Seattle's return situation was an unmitigated disaster with Laviska Shenault Jr. and Dee Williams attempting to return kicks. Neither player finished the 2024 season with the Seahawks, as both were released following their fumble-fest in the Week 13 victory over the New York Jets.
