Saints met with UCLA linebacker, impressive athlete before 2025 NFL draft
The New Orleans Saints 2025 offseason has been a very interesting one, with a whole new coaching regime coming into the fold, multiple signings to improve the roster, and a high-value draft pick within the top ten. This allows the Saints to start from scratch to some degree and build up a new roster and franchise in the image they wish. First up, they will need to hit on their draft selections and work on creating a young foundation to improve their ceiling.
They have met with a wide variety of prospects throughout the offseason, and another one has been added to the list, with UCLA linebacker Joseph Vaughn being one of their spring meetings, as was reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.
Vaughn has been drawing interest from around the NFL seemingly, as can be seen in the report where he has been invited to a local prospect day and multiple meetings. His pro day results were impressive which has validated these meetings, posting a 4.66-second 40-yard dash, 41.5-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-3 broad jump, 4.18-second 20-yard shuttle, 6.82-second three-cone drill, and 21 reps on the bench press. That adds up to a 9.45 Relative Athletic Score.
While his production in 2024 may be offputting initially, he did not get a huge amount of opportunities with UCLA. His real success came in his time with Yale, especially in 2023, where he accrued 88 total tackles (55 solo, 33 assisted), 13 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, 5 pass deflections, and 3 forced fumbles. On those 3 interceptions, he had 138 return yards and a touchdown as well.
His mix of productivity and athleticism has made him an intriguing prospect no doubt, and one the Saints could look to select at some point in the upcoming draft.
