The New Orleans Saints have had a heavy presence at many pro days leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, with head coach Kellen Moore taking Gayle Benson's private jet for trips to scout some of this year's top quarterbacks. But that isn't the case for Friday's pro day at Colorado. Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter Jori Epstein says just two Saints coaches will be in Boulder: Scott Tolzien (quarterbacks) and Keith Williams (wide receivers). Moore is staying in New Orleans. Most of the attention centers on star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, so assigning those two coaches for the event makes sense.
It's still a bit of a surprise for the head coach to sit this one out. Moore flew out to see Cam Ward throw at Miami's pro day, then he spent a lot of time with Quinn Ewers (Texas) and Will Howard (Ohio State), plus Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss). Tolzien has been busy on the pro day circuit himself after catching throwing sessions for Tyler Shough (Louisville), Kyle McCord (Syracuse), and Hunter Dekkers (Iowa Western), and his input matters. But it might say a lot that Moore is choosing to skip Colorado altogether. Maybe he's feigning disinterest in a smokescreen, but that feels a little too conspiratory.
Williams' presence is interesting. Opinions are split on whether Hunter should play receiver or cornerback in the NFL, and he's seen as a lock to be a top-five draft pick, so the Saints may not have a shot at him anyway. Someone else he'll be keeping tabs on? Day 3 prospect Will Sheppard, another wide receiver, who tried out at the Saints' local pro day last weekend. He's firmly on the Saints' radar and is a more realistic target than Hunter.
