Sagamore Conference adds Terre Haute North and South

The Sagamore Conference announced Thursday afternoon that they are expanding to six schools, with Terre Haute North Vigo and Terre Haute South Vigo accepting invitations to join the conference.

They will join Lebanon, Danville, Harrison and McCutcheon in the 2026-27 school year.

The two schools are currently members of Conference Indiana, which now sits at three schools after Bloomington North accepted an invitation to join the Mid-State Conference earlier this spring.

"We are thrilled to welcome Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South to the Sagamore Athletic Conference family," said Lebanon High School principal, Frank Meyer in a press release. "Their outstanding athletic traditions, excellent facilities, and strong community support make them perfect additions to our conference."

Terre Haute South has an enrollment of 1609 and Terre Haute North has an enrollment of 1467, putting them behind Harrison (2169) and McCutcheon (1786), but ahead of Lebanon (1033) and Danville (820).

They are 5A football schools and 4A in four-class sports.

Athletic directors from all six schools have collaborated to develop innovative scheduling solutions that address transportation logistics effectively, their press release said. (it is a 2-hour drive from Terre Haute to Harrison, 1:30 from Lebanon).

The expanded conference is committed to providing competitive balance and enhanced opportunities for student-athletes across all sports programs.

"This expansion represents an exciting new chapter for our conference," Meyer added. "With six strong member institutions, we look forward to exploring future growth opportunities while maintaining our commitment to Education-Based Athletics."

Established in 1968, the Sagamore Athletic Conference has been a cornerstone of interscholastic competition in central Indiana for over five decades. The conference has built its reputation on fostering excellence in both athletics and academics while strengthening community connections throughout the region.

It is currently at eight teams, but five teams (Crawfordsville, Frankfort, North Montgomery, Southmont and Western Boone) are leaving at the end of the school year to create the Monon Athletic Conference. Tri-West will be in the conference for one more year before leaving in 2026-27 for the new Hoosier Legends Conference.
