'Room for improvement' for top-of-the-table Hibs, says boss Scott
Hibernian head coach Grant Scott thinks his side have even more room for improvement despite taking a surprise lead in the Scottish Women's Premier League on Sunday and preparing to face Rangers in next weekend's SWPL Cup final.
Striker Kirsty Morrison scored a winner late into stoppage time for the Edinburgh side as they beat Glasgow City on Sunday, a result that moved them above Leanne Ross' hosts at the top of the SWPL table.
Even though Hibs are two points clear, and have already also beaten reigning champions Celtic, and fellow title hopefuls Heart of Midlothian and Rangers, who are now second in the league table, this season, Scott thinks there is still room for improvement.
"I think our performances have dropped in a couple of games despite the fact we're winning," he said.
- Hibs go top of SWPL with injury-time winner at Glasgow City
- Rangers ease past Motherwell to move second in SWPL
"That's a good habit to be in, but I think, come cup final day, we need to perform better than we possibly have in the last two or three games and that's me being a little bit overcritical.
"When you're winning, it's difficult to look for too much more, but we've got a tough opponent to play and everything will just need to be raised a little bit for this game."
After their 8-0 thrashing of sixth-placed Motherwell, Rangers remain just two points behind Hibs, but they are yet to overcome the Edinburgh side this season as they look to lift the trophy for a third year running.
When the sides met back in December, Hibs were 3-0 winners at Broadwood, while the previous contest was a 1-1 draw, but Scott said: "They're a team stacked with quality.
"They're very dangerous in front of goal and in the final third, they score a lot of goals and don't concede too many.
"I think they have a way of playing that is fairly consistent, but they're very, very strong, strong physically, strong tactically. A very tough match in prospect."
Although Hibs lifted the League Cup trophy for a seventh time as recently as 2019, their third league title came way back in 2007, but while their rise to the top this season has surprised many, not so Rangers head coach Jo Potter.
"I think we always knew that Hibs had that potential," she said. "I think such a rise in such a short amount of time has probably raised a few eyebrows, but we all know these players and Grant's been around the league for a long time.
"What they're doing right now is that they've got great momentum, they've got great confidence and they've got a really good couple of results."
