Prep roundup: Brighton pitcher Andrew Everson shows off bat in opening sweep of Milford
Andrew Everson was the Livingston County baseball Player of the Year last season solely because of his pitching.
The Brighton senior’s bat has been added to his arsenal this season.
Everson hit a solo homer in his first at-bat of the year to open the scoring in the first inning of an 11-1 season-opening victory Wednesday over Milford.
In the second game, he drove in the only run in a 1-0 victory that ended after five innings because of darkness.
Everson had only 16 plate appearances and 13 official at-bats last season, hitting .231 with three hits and four RBIs. As a pitcher, he led the county in victories (7), strikeouts (69) and earned run average (0.82).
He picked up where he left off on the mound, allowing one run on three hits in five innings in the first game. He struck out nine batters and walked two.
Alex Larson, who started on the varsity as a freshman last season, was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in the first game. In the second game, he scored the only run on a single by Everson after reaching base on a double.
Logan Santana threw four no-hit innings in the second game, striking out seven and walking two.
