AFC Bournemouth and Spain international defender Dean Huijsen celebrates his 20th birthday today, months away from what can be a career-defining summer transfer window for the youngster.

The centre-back has been a revelation in the Premier League this season, since arriving from Juventus in the summer, sparking widespread interest from a host of top clubs, including Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, recent reports suggested that top teams in the Premier League like Liverpool and Arsenal are also admirers of the youngster.

Huijsen wants Spain move

However, according to MARCA, Huijsen and his camp are clear about their intentions: they want to return to Spain soon.

Even though he was born in the Netherlands, the 20-year-old grew up and developed as a footballer. His formative years in Malaga and Marbella shaped his ambition to one day return to the country.

That return could happen this summer, although nothing is confirmed and no deal is guaranteed.

Huijsen is under contract until 2030, with a release clause of £50 million (over €55 million). It is a hefty price tag, but one that is manageable for top clubs, Real Madrid included.

Recent reports, however, suggested that the Merengues might be apprehensive about the release clause amount which could lead Huijsen to a move to a different Premier League club.

The 20-year-old defensive prodigy is improving physically and continues to build his strength while boasting elite ball-playing ability.

Huijsen’s potential addition to the Real Madrid backline would be an excellent move for the club, especially considering David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s advancing age and physical problems.

But, whether the Spanish champions are willing to activate the £50 million release clause remains to be seen.
