KEYSER, W.Va. — WVU Potomac State College entered the NJCAA Division II national softball rankings this week at No. 25.
The Catamounts (26-3, 15-0 NJCAA Region 20) showed why, sweeping Cecil on Wednesday 6-3 in the first game and 9-4 in the finale.
In the second game, the teams combined for four home runs.
Lindsay Mowry and Lacie Miller hit solo shots for Potomac State while Sloane Tanner and Tristan Canavan hit two-run shots for the Eagles.
Mowry led the Catamounts going 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two stolen bases.
Chloe Greise (Bishop Walsh) earned the win allowing two earned runs across three innings while Lacie Miller got a four-inning save.
In the opener, Skyla Compton hit a solo shot in the second inning for Potomac State.
Compton, Ashton Spiker and Eva Ochoa each finished with two hits.
Greise threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and four walks with 12 strikeouts.
Greise was named the NJCAA Region 20, Division II softball Athlete of the Month for March.
She struck out 99 batters in 17 games in March, recording a 16-1 record.
She broke the Potomac State career strikeout record on March 30 with 320.
In March, she faced 319 batters and allowed nine unearned runs.
The Catamounts resume a suspended game against Allegany College on Sunday, leading 8-0 in the top of the third.
Potomac State then heads to Frederick on Monday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
Fairmont State sweeps Frostburg
FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State swept Frostburg State in Wednesday’s doubleheader, taking game one 6-0 and game two 6-1.
In game two, Alexa Foresha hit a three-run shot for the Fighting Falcons (26-11-1, 11-3 Mountain East Conference) in the fifth inning.
Delaney Haller earned the win in 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and two walks with one earned run.
Izabella Donaldson took the loss in four innings, allowing six hits, four runs and four walks for the Bobcats (10-26, 5-11 MEC).
In the first game, Caitlin Morey and Micah Wilson combined to allow three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Katie Chapple took the loss in 4 1/3 frames, allowing seven hits, six runs and eight walks.
Frostburg hosts Glenville State for a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Allegany College routs Garrett
McHENRY — Allegany College was dominant in a doubleheader on Wednesday, outscoring the Garrett College club team by a margin of 56-2.
The Trojans (9-13, 4-8 Region 20) won 30-1 and 26-1.
Across both games, Natalie Selby recorded nine hits and 10 RBIs for Allegany.
Gabryelle Pendo combined for six hits and five RBIs while Briannah Lucas posted five hits and six RBIs.
Kayla Hill and Ryanne Martinez combined to allow nine hits, one earned run and three walks across the two starters.
Hill struck out 10 batters while Martinez added four strikeouts.
The Lakers (0-4, 0-1 Region 20) play a doubleheader at Hagerstown on Monday at 3 p.m.
The Trojans host Frederick for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
