Penn State baseball's schedule just got a bit shorter.
On Monday, the team announced its mid-week matchup against West Virginia, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, has been canceled due to expected weather in Morgantown.
Penn State has yielded mixed results from its mid-week matchups this season, which have come against nonconference competition, posting a 4-3 record so far.
The Nittany Lions will still have an opportunity to host the Mountaineers, with another game between the schools scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, this time in State College.
The two squads have developed a regional rivalry in recent years, clashing on the diamond every year except one since the 2011 season. Penn State holds a narrow 7-6 advantage in the all-time series history, and will look to expand on that lead later this month.
The Nittany Lions sit at 21-10 overall, one of the team's best starts in recent memory, including 9-6 in conference action. They currently sit fifth in the Big Ten, on pace for a trip to the conference tournament at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, West Virginia holds an impressive 27-4 overall record, including 7-3 against Big XII opponents.
Following the cancelation, Penn State will instead prepare to host USC for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 5:30 p.m. The opener is also the Nittany Lions' White Out game.
