Paul Skenes rare card sells for more than the pitcher will earn this season
An 11-year-old child who found a rare baseball card for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has officially sold the extremely valuable memorabilia.
The child made a life-changing decision when he opted to sell the card at auction rather than accept an offer from the Pirates (and Livvy Dune). The 1-of-1 Topps rookie card included an autograph and a patch from the pitcher, and it went for sale at auction via Fanatics Collect.
When it was all said and done, the card sold for a whopping $1.1 million. That number is the sixth-most of all-time and the second-most among all active players, per Topps, behind only Mike Trout.

Paul Skenes will earn $875,000 from the #Pirates in 2025.
To put that in perspective: Skenes will collect only $875,000 on his rookie salary from the Pirates next season.
So this card just went for more than Skenes 2025 salary, which is certainly something to think about.
