David Ornstein has provided an update on the interest one Manchester United star is attracting leading up to the summer window.
The player in question is none other than Alejandro Garnacho, whom the Red Devils rejected a £40 million bid for in January following talks with Napoli.
United refused to budge on their £70m valuation at the time, despite the Serie A outfit being adamant about recruiting the Argentine as a potential Khvicha Kvaratskhelia successor. They opted against returning with an improved proposal, and it remains to be seen if they will revive their pursuit in the summer.
Reports from Italy have suggested they will – even amidst the youngster’s substandard form in the second half of the campaign, which has reportedly prompted United to lower their asking price around the region of £40m. If that is indeed the case, a deal could be considerably easier to get over the line.
Chelsea retain Garnacho interest heading into summer window
That being said, INEOS would likely increase their demands if it looked as though Garnacho could be making the move to a direct Premier League rival, such as Chelsea.
The Stamford Bridge outfit held lengthy talks with the player in the winter, so much so that it was claimed they were confident they had ‘laid the groundwork’ for a transfer in the coming months.
David Ornstein reiterated that Chelsea were among the Argentine’s suitors on Thursday, stating in his Q&A with The Athletic that Garnacho is ‘under consideration’ by club chiefs – as is Borussia Dortmund starlet Jamie Gittens.
In terms of the options United could turn to to replace the 20-year-old academy graduate, they have been linked with Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha in recent weeks.
