Ohio State DC Matt Patricia: 'It's (Ohio) where all the good players come from'
When naming the states that produce the best high school talent, states like California, Florida, Georgia, and Texas are always mentioned first.
Ohio is another state that's typically mentioned in that group. A big reason Ohio State finally reached the peak of the college football landscape this last season was its history of landing the best in-state recruits.
New Buckeyes defensive coordinator Matt Patricia already recognizes just how crucial in-state recruiting will be for the program to stay at the top.
"Right now I'm just trying to learn the area," Patricia recenty stated in an interview. "You know the bigger schools and obviously there's nothing better than Ohio high school football. I know from even being in the NFL.
"This is where all the good players are coming from. I'm excited to be in this state."

Patricia is back on the college scene after over 20 years away from it. He was a GA at Syracuse from 2001-2003 before joining the New England Patriots in 2004 as an assistant offensive line coach.
He worked his way through the ranks before eventually being named the Patriots' defensive coordinator in 2012. Patricia stayed in the role through the 2017 season.
In 2018, he was hired as the Detroit Lions head coach and spent three seasons there.
Returning to New England in 2021, he spent the next two seasons as a senior defensive advisor. He was in Philadelphia in 2023 as a senior defensive assistant.
Now, he's in the Big Ten, where he has inherited a defense that ranked No. 1 in the country last season. However, the Buckeyes will experience massive turnover, with several players graduating and heading to the NFL.
According to 247Sports, Ohio State has the No. 4 ranked class in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
