After months of uncertainty surrounding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, FC Barcelona can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The Higher Sports Council (CSD) has upheld the appeal filed by the club and the two players, declaring the decision of the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement null and void.
CSD puts out a statement
The CSD’s statement made it clear that the Monitoring Committee lacked the authority to deny the registration of the players.
According to the current coordination agreement between the RFEF and LaLiga, the Committee is responsible only for interpreting the Convention’s clauses, monitoring compliance, and promoting related activities.
“The Supreme Council for Sports (CSD) decided on Thursday to accept the appeal submitted by players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, along with FC Barcelona, on January 7, thereby overturning the agreement reached by the Coordination Agreement Monitoring Committee between the Spanish Football Federation and La Liga,” the statement read (h/t Guillem Balague)
Furthermore, the RFEF itself admitted there was no official decision to cancel the licenses, reinforcing the validity of the players’ registrations.
“The Supreme Council for Sports clarified that the Monitoring Committee did not have the jurisdiction to reject the preliminary visa or the federal license, rendering its initial decision legally void,” it said.
As a result, both Olmo and Víctor’s licenses remain intact, allowing them to continue featuring for the first team.
The CSD also emphasized that the matter does not concern LaLiga’s financial control, which is a separate issue handled by its Budget Validation Body.
