SOUTH BEND ― Notre Dame women's basketball will start its quest for a national championship Friday when they host Stephen F. Austin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Fighting Irish (26-5) earned a No. 3 seed in one of the two Birmingham regionals. They will face the 14th-seeded Ladyjacks (29-5), who won the Southland Conference to earn a berth into March Madness. By earning a top four seed, Notre Dame will host the first two rounds of the tournament.

The Ladyjacks were the No. 3 seed in the Southland Conference tournament, knocking off No. 2 seed Lamar in the semifinals and No. 1 see Southeast Louisiana, 65-57, in the finals to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Although the Irish have struggled as of late, they should take care of Stephen F. Austin on its home floor. While the Ladyjacks can score with the best of them, the Irish have two of the best players in the country in Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles. That should be enough for Notre Dame to advance.
