No team in college football has been as dominant as Oklahoma
If the Oklahoma football team and its fans had their druthers, Iowa State would have joined the Southeastern Conference instead of Missouri.
There's no chance, of course, that would ever have happened, but the Sooners' dominance over ISU is epic. We were reminded just how epic that dominance has been on Wednesday.
Turns out, no team in the country can touch Oklahoma's dominance over the Cyclones. According to college football historian Ken Jones, OU is the only FBS team that owns a winning percentage of .900 or greater over another FBS opponent with more than 50 meetings between them.
Pity to poor Indiana, one of the most woebegone programs in FBS to this day. Something former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson knows all about.
Unfortunately for the Sooners, Missouri will be on the slate two out of every four years, keeping a modest rivalry from the Big 12 days alive. The good news for Oklahoma, though, is that the Sooners have owned that matchup, too. Barring last year's loss that is. Even with that defeat, Oklahoma leads Missouri in the all-time series, 67-25. That's easily the best record the Sooners have against a conference opponent they've met more than 50 times.

Former Big 12 rivals Texas and Texas A&M also play in the league. The Sooners have a losing record against Texas, 51-64-5. And while they do own a winning record against the Aggies, 19-12, the teams have only met those 31 times, well short of the 50-game threshold Jones checked. Texas A&M is actually a longer-standing rival to fellow SEC school Arkansas (81 meetings) than the Sooners.
Despite Oklahoma's 6-7 season in 2024, history suggests reason for optimism against Missouri in 2025 and in the years to come.
