Tennessee basketball defeats UCLA in NCAA Tournament second round
No. 2 seed Tennessee (29-7) defeated No. 7 seed UCLA (23-11), 67-58, Saturday in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Vols advanced to the Sweet 16 for a third consecutive season.
Chaz Lanier totaled 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. He converted 6-of-14 field goal attempts, 4-of-5 three-point attempts and 4-of-4 free throw attempts. Lanier also broke Tennessee's record for most made three pointers in a single season. The mark was previously held by Chris Lofton, who was in attendance Saturday.
Zakai Zeigler, the Vols' senior point guard and two-time reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year, recorded 15 points, six assists, three rebounds and three steals, while Jordan Gainey totaled 13 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Igor Milicic Jr. and Felix Okpara each finished with four points and seven rebounds for Tennessee.
The Vols will next play in the Sweet 16 against Kentucky or Illinois. The Vols defeated Illinois in the regular season and were swept by the Wildcats.
