Well this is a big deal. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the NFL's Christmas Day slate is getting bigger, with two games streaming on Netflix before a prime-time feature on Amazon Prime Video. So there's a chance the New Orleans Saints could be playing under a bright spotlight on one of the nation's biggest holidays in 2025. Christmas Day falls on a Thursday this year so all six teams should expect to be coming off short weeks.
It's the same structure the league has used for Thanksgiving Day games over the years, but all three games will be streaming online rather than being hosted by traditional over-the-air broadcasting networks. Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC and NFL Network have each broadcast prior Christmas Day matchups.
The Saints helped kick this door down themselves back in 2020, when they blew out the Minnesota Vikings in a rematch of their 2019 playoff game. Alvin Kamara's NFL record-tying six touchdown runs powered them to a 52-33 victory. The high ratings from that Christmas Day game convinced the NFL to schedule a double-header in 2021, followed up by three-game features in 2022 and 2023. Just two teams played on Christmas Day last season, both on Netflix.
