NFL analyst grades Jaguars' Christian Kirk trade to Texans
What grade did NFL.com give the Jacksonville Jaguars for trading wide receiver Christian Kirk?
Kevin Patra of NFL.com recently handed out grades for 14 trades that were made this offseason. When it came to the Jaguars, who traded Kirk to the Houston Texans for a 2026 seventh-round pick, Patra gave Jacksonville a C+ and the Texans a B+.
"The Jags got something for a player they were about to cut. Yay! It also wasn't a lot, so I can't give them too high a grade here," wrote Patra. "Given his injury history and production over the last two years, it made sense that Jacksonville's brass would move on swiftly. We can, too."
Although a C+ isn't an overwhelmingly positive grade, it sounds like Patra gets why the Jaguars moved on, and they did at least get something in return when the alternative was releasing him for nothing.
Kirk was entering the final year of his deal with the Jaguars and had missed time the last two years due to injuries, appearing in 19 out of a possible 34 games.
While there is a lot of potential production alongside of Brian Thomas Jr. that will now have to be replaced, moving on from Kirk did free up north of $10 million in salary cap space this offseason, which the Jaguars put to use in free agency.
“Yeah, really have so much respect for the people and the players that both Christian and Evan (Engram) are, and they meant a lot to the locker room," GM James Gladstone said. "We'll continue to bring those types of people and players into our ecosystem, but we needed a little bit more flexibility to address the larger scale roster after some departures across the OL as well.
"So, that was a big part in that. But we do feel like we're in a better position today than we were a couple of weeks ago to make it so that when we enter each decision at each pick point in April, we can continue to level up where we are from a personnel perspective.”
