New pickleball indoor facility opens in Fair Lawn

FAIR LAWN − The Picklr, an indoor pickleball facility, opened its first location in Bergen County on Saturday.

This 32,000-square-foot club located at 18-01 Pollitt Drive has 12 fully fenced “oversized” indoor courts with “outdoor-style court surfacing,” according to the company. The Fair Lawn location also features a store selling pickleball equipment and a private event space.

The club celebrated the grand opening on Saturday with raffles, a food truck and meetings with a physical therapist. The location used to be a warehouse.

Brian Ott of Hackensack hits a pickleball during the grand opening of The Picklr in Fair Lawn on March 29.

“We opened because we want to build a community,” said Fair Lawn location co-owner Wai Yiu. “People from different ages can play together. We see grandparents play with grandsons and different age groups coming together from different backgrounds.”

The price of a monthly unlimited membership is $199, while a year unlimited membership is $2,089. There are also day passes available. Drop-in fees for non-members are $30, which allows them full-day use at the club, according to The Picklr’s official website.

A membership at the Picklr gives nationwide access to other locations, free court reservations, unlimited open play, unlimited competitive play, unlimited leagues, unlimited tournaments, four clinic passes per month and four guest passes per month, according to business' website.

The Utah-based franchise started four years ago and Fair Lawn marks the group’s 37th location, said Steven Russell, the business’ chief strategy officer. By the end of 2025, the Picklr is hoping to have 88 locations nationwide. The franchise has one other New Jersey location in Manahawkin.

Russell said the facility was built with a sound baffle system that absorbs the loud sound of the pickleball games and makes it easier to hold conversations with teammates and opponents. The clinics, or training sessions, offered at The Picklr are aimed at everyone who is interested in learning more about the sport.

“We have opportunities for you to come and learn,” said Russell. “We have pathway where you don’t have to be a member, you can come and learn to play pickleball. We invite anybody who’s curious about it to come on in.”
