Allie Ziebell is a national champion.
The former Neenah High School basketball standout and her UConn women’s basketball team beat South Carolina 82-59 on Sunday to win the NCAA Division I championship.
It is the 12th national title for the Huskies, the most of any women’s team.
Azzi Fudd scored 24 points in the championship game and was named most outstanding player in the tournament.
Ziebell capped her freshman season with UConn in the title game and was on the court in the final minute as the clock expired on the Huskies' championship win.
Ziebell was named the Associated Press state player of the year and a unanimous first-team all-state pick in her final season at Neenah. She was also the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Ms. Basketball winner, a first-team WBCA all-state selection in D1 and the Gatorade Wisconsin player of the year for the second season in a row.
She finished her career fourth overall in the state in points with 2,819. She was also named to the McDonald's All-American Team her senior year and won a gold medal as a member of the U19 national team at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
UConn finishes the season with a 37-3 record. It is the first national title since 2016 for the Huskies.
Heading into the championship game, Ziebell played in 32 games this season for the Huskies. She averaged. 8.4 minutes and 2.9 points per game.
She had a season-high 17 points in 18 minutes against Xavier on Jan. 8.
