Nashville Predators' Michael McCarron ejected for hit on St. Louis Blues' Pavel Buchnevich
The Nashville Predators extended their league lead in major penalties against the St. Louis Blues at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday.
At the 6:12 mark of the second period, forward Michael McCarron was assessed a five-minute major penalty after a hit on Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich. McCarron checked Buchnevich as he was skating from behind the St. Louis net, launching his right shoulder into Buchnevich's head and sending him to the ice.
After the hit, Blues forward Jake Neighbors went after McCarron and two dropped gloves briefly.
Buchnevich left the game after the hit and did not return in the second period.
McCarron was assessed 20 total penalty minutes − a five-minute major for the hit, a five-minute major for fighting, and 10 minutes for a game misconduct, which also resulted in an ejection from the game.
With two major penalties called, the Predators now have 33 major penalties as a team, which leads the league.
Probably a good call on the five minute major penalty for Michael McCarron, though I don’t think it’s suspension worthy. pic.twitter.com/XZgv9lTaIh

Most of the Predators' major penalties are fighting majors, but they've had a few dangerous hits called for major penalties as well. The most signficant was Zach L'Heureux's slew-foot on Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon, which resulted in a three-game suspension for L'Heureux.
It's unclear if McCarron's hit will be one the league will review for a suspension.
McCarron has one suspension in his career, a two-game suspension for an illegal hit to the head of Tampa's Yanni Gourde in 2021.
