Michigan basketball PG Tre Donaldson enters transfer portal

The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh away.

Michigan basketball got its first transfer portal addition now that its 2024-25 season is over, with former five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau departing the North Carolina Tar Heels for the Wolverines on Monday. But on Tuesday, the maize and blue lost one of the key pieces of last year's squad in return.

With Cadeau coming in to run the point, it appears as if extant point guard Tre Donaldson didn't want to split or share time. Though the former Auburn guard (who transferred into Ann Arbor a year ago) could have slid into more of a combo guard role, it appears he's on the move, as he has entered the transfer portal. He's Michigan's second loss to the portal thus far, with forward Sam Walters having entered on Monday.

Michigan now will rely on a backcourt featuring Cadeau, second-year guard LJ Cason, five-star combo guard Trey McKenney, and potentially Nimari Burnett, who has yet another year of eligibility remaining.
