McAlester tops Latta in 10 innings
LATTA — McAlester nine-hole hitter Jordan Clark came up with a two-out, two-RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to help the Buffaloes clip Latta in an instant classic Thursday night at Panther Park.
The Buffaloes improved to 2-4 on the year, while Latta lost for the first time, falling to 4-1.
The Panthers are now off to the Southeast Shootout, hosted by Broken Bow, for four spring break contests.
Latta is scheduled to square off against Sallisaw at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Hugo High School. Latta is set to meet Jay at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Battiest and faces Community Christian at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Idabel. The Panthers wrap up play at the Southeast Shootout at 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Bridge Creek in Idabel.

(10 Innings)
Parker Dusenberry led off the top of the 10th inning with a base hit to left field for McAlester. Latta relief pitcher Darien Miller then struck out the next two MHS batters.
However, after Dusenberry stole second, he raced home on Clark’s big hit.
Latta threatened to rally in the bottom of the 10th frame.
Landon Fortner reached on a one-out error and went all the way to second on the play. McAlester then opted to intentionally walk Miller.
Jonah Boyington then drew a five-pitch walk that loaded the bases.
However, McAlester relief pitcher Wilson Alford got out of that jam with a strikeout and fly out to right field to end the game and leave the bases full of Panthers.
Latta had plenty of opportunities to push runs across the plate throughout the marathon contest but stranded 12 base runners.
The Panthers scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning when Reese Littlefield reached on an error, went to second on the same miscue and raced to third on a passed ball.
Miller then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that pushed across the run and put Latta on top 1-0.
Clark came up big for the Buffaloes in the bottom of the third when he led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaxon McKinney.
Latta junior pitcher Gestin Pollard deserved a better fate after he pitched nine phenomenal innings. Pollard struck out eight, didn’t walk a batter and scattered four hits.
McAlester starter Lucas Johns was also solid. He struck out five and worked around four walks in eight innings.
Miller had two of four Latta hits in the contest. Kaiden Goolsby had the only other base hit for the hosts.
Spencer Stinchcomb and Clark both had two hits for the Buffs.
