Matthew Stafford doesn't make top-30 all-time QB list, but 2 other former Rams did
The Los Angeles Rams have had some up-and-down success at the quarterback position throughout their history as an NFL franchise.
And while CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo went through the top-30 quarterbacks of all-time, he found two Rams passers made the cut. Oddly enough, one of them wasn't Matthew Stafford, who won one of the Rams' two Super Bowl championships.
DeArdo ranked Kurt Warner No. 19 and Norm Van Brocklin No. 30 on his all-time list. He did preface the post by admitting only two active quarterbacks made the cut (Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers) but others like Stafford, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson will likely make it as well in the future.
The metrics were simple: Individual accolades, records set, team success and enduring legacy.
Warner and Van Brocklin certainly have a mix of both, and Stafford is well on his way if his career continues at a similar pace.
On Warner:
"Warner quickly took the NFL by storm, becoming the first QB in history to throw three touchdowns in each of his first three starts. He capped off his storybook season by winning MVP honors in Super Bowl XXXIV on the strength of his game-winning touchdown pass to Isaac Bruce. Warner won two league MVP awards and played in two more Super Bowls. While his team lost both times, Warner threw for the second- and third-highest totals in Super Bowl history at that time (his 414 yards in the Rams' Super Bowl win over the Titans was the highest-single game total at the time)."
On Van Brocklin:
"Van Brocklin helped revolutionize the quarterback position during the 1960s. After leading the Rams to the NFL title game in 1950, Van Brocklin capped off his career by leading the Eagles to a win over Vince Lombardi's Packers in the 1960 NFL title game."
Warner and Van Brocklin are certainly two of the most iconic Rams quarterbacks in franchise history. Stafford is actually sandwiched in between both of them on the all-time franchise list for passing yards, which Warner sitting at No. 7 and Van Brocklin at No. 5 (Stafford is at No. 6). Stafford is behind both of them in passing touchdowns and wins (for now, at least).
