Match Report: Rangers Clinch Historic Victory Over Celtic with Dramatic Winner
Rangers Stun Celtic with Late Igamane Winner in Thrilling Derby
Rangers sealed a dramatic victory over Celtic at Parkhead, with Hamza Igamane’s stunning late goal ensuring a 3-2 win in a pulsating Scottish Premiership clash. It marked the Ibrox side’s first triumph at Celtic Park since 2020, piling pressure on their city rivals in the title race.
Early Rangers Brilliance Sets the Tone
Barry Ferguson’s men flew out of the blocks, immediately putting Celtic on the back foot. The opening goal arrived within four minutes, as James Tavernier’s pinpoint cross was met by Nico Raskin, who guided his header past Joe Hart.
Celtic struggled to establish control, and Rangers took full advantage. Mohamed Diomande, so instrumental in recent weeks, doubled their lead before the break, slotting a precise shot into the bottom corner after being set up by Raskin. At half-time, the visitors were cruising with a 2-0 lead, and Celtic’s response was uncertain.
Celtic Fight Back but Rangers Hold Their Nerve
Brendan Rodgers’ side, perhaps feeling the weight of Thursday’s gruelling Europa League win over Fenerbahce, looked lethargic in the opening stages. But after the restart, they sparked into life.
Daizen Maeda ignited Celtic’s comeback with a towering header from a Jota cross in the 49th minute, lifting the home crowd. Momentum shifted further in the 74th minute when Reo Hatate latched onto a pass from Luke McCowan and calmly slotted the ball home.
With Parkhead in full voice and Celtic in the ascendency, an equaliser seemed inevitable. But just when it looked like Rangers might buckle, Igamane delivered a moment of sheer brilliance.
Igamane’s Stunning Strike Seals the Win
With just minutes remaining, a costly slip from Alistair Johnston gifted Igamane the opportunity to write his name into derby folklore. Latching onto a long pass from goalkeeper Jack Butland, the Rangers forward took full advantage, unleashing an unstoppable shot past Hart.
That strike not only secured three points for Rangers but also ensured Celtic’s long unbeaten home record in the Scottish Premiership came to an end. The result means the title remains unconfirmed until after the league split next month, with Rangers cutting Celtic’s lead to 13 points.
This latest Old Firm showdown delivered everything—quality, drama, and controversy. For Celtic, it’s a bruising defeat, but for Rangers, it’s a moment of sheer jubilation as they celebrate two huge wins in just four days.
