PEORIA — The Bradley Braves surfaced as a footnote in the 2025 March Madness tourney Thursday when No. 7 Kansas was upset by No. 10 Arkansas in the first round.
The last time Kansas was beaten in the first round, it was Bradley that did it, in 2006.
On March 17, 2006, the Braves got a game-high 21 points from Marcellus Sommerville, who hit five 3-pointers and grabbed 7 rebounds, to beat Kansas, 77-73.
The Braves were the No. 13 seed in that game and Kansas was No. 4.
The Jayhawks advanced to the second round of the tournament 17 consecutive seasons after that. But that streak ended Thursday, when they were taken out by John Calipari's Arkansas team, 79-72.
Kansas, under Bill Self, was ranked No. 1 in the nation at one point this season.
