Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana open to Saudi Arabia move this summer
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly open to completing a permanent move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer, with the club also keen on selling him.
Onana joined United in 2023 as the replacement for long-time servant David de Gea. United forked out £47.2 million to lure him from Inter Milan.
However, he has been a polarising figure during his two seasons at Old Trafford, courtesy of a number of high-profile mistakes and lapses of judgement. Some of his howlers have dearly cost United, and it’s understood the club are looking at moving him on when the window opens.
A report covered by The Peoples Person over the weekend claimed that Onana is set to seal a switch to the Middle East this summer.
It was stated that Ruben Amorim has made offloading the Cameroonian a priority and has already lined up two potential replacements – Senne Lammens (Royal Antwerp) and Lucas Chevalier (Lille).
A few weeks ago, another report explained that Onana is confident he has Amorim’s backing despite the speculation over his future. The report pointed out that United are the only team he wants to play for.
Now, it appears the 28-year-old has had a change of heart. TBR’s Graeme Bailey reveals that Onana is not opposed to the idea of going to Saudi Arabia.
“The Saudi Pro League have shown an interest in Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and TBR Football understands the Cameroon star would be open to moving to the Middle East this summer.”
“The Saudi Pro League have made early moves to check on Andre Onana’s situation and they have received encouragement from both the player and Manchester United that a deal is there to be done, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.”
“United are open to talks over Onana, although the lines of communication with the Pro League have long been open given they have had regular contact over Casemiro.”
Bailey adds that in addition to Onana, the Saudi Pro League are also targeting Alisson and Ederson of Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively.
United are also hopeful of selling Casemiro to the Gulf State.
