Newcastle are into their second Carabao Cup final in three seasons and Eddie Howe has insisted his team are improved from that 2023 defeat to Manchester United.

Howe led the side back into the Champions League last season and will now aim to etch his name into the club’s history forevermore. Newcastle have never won the League Cup but have twice finished as runners-up in the competition.
Liverpool are looking to defend the League Cup after last season’s triumph, a record-extending 10th title for the Merseysiders.

Anthony Gordon is the headline absentee for Newcastle as the winger serves a three-match ban. Gordon was sent off during the club’s FA Cup exit to Brighton and the Magpies opted against an appeal.
He joins Lewis Hall and Sven Botman as key figures missing, with the defensive duo out with foot and knee issues respectively. Jamaal Lascelles remains in the treatment room with a knee injury.
