Lazio Star Leaves National Team Camp Due to Physical Problem
Lazio full-back Nuno Tavares has returned to Rome, thus putting a premature end to his stay with the Portuguese national team.
Controversial Exit
The 25-year-old’s situation caused a stir over the past few days. After complaining about a physical issue ahead of the Biancocelesti’s Serie A contest against Bologna, he was kept on the bench for the duration of the match, watching his teammates getting pummelled by five unanswered goals.
So upon the team’s return to the Italian capital, the Arsenal loaned-out star was expected to report to the club’s medical facility to undergo the necessary tests, but he reportedly went against the club’s instructions by immediately heading to Portugal to answer the national team’s call.
Nuno Tavares Returns to Lazio
However, Tavares’ stay with the Selecao turned out to be brief, as he was sent home once Portugal’s medical staff realised he was carrying a physical problem The national team released a statement clarifying the situation (as published by La Lazio Siamo Noi).
Nuno Tavares has been declared unfit by the Health and Performance Unit for the Nations League quarter-finals. The defender is suffering from problems that will preven him from recovering in time for the match against Denmark. Nuno Tavares has returned to his club where he will continue his recovery process.
Marco Baroni Reassures
In his interview with Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani was also interrogated on the matter, and he reassured the player is only carrying a small physical issue that he should overcome soon enough.
All the national teams want their players in training camp, then they carry out the necessary tests. For Tavares, they have highlighted a small problem so he he returned to Rome.
He wanted to play against Bologna, but he had a fresh issue. We are also waiting for news on Zaccagni who had some discomfort. But we are obliged to let them leave, then they will be evaluated in training camp.
