L.A. Sparks Star Cameron Brink Uncomfortable with Practicing Against Men After Offensive Comments: ‘Icked Out’

Cameron Brink of the Los Angeles Sparks in May 2024Los Angeles Sparks forward Cameron Brink officially has the ick.
After her team advertised upcoming “male practice tryouts” on X, resulting in more than 43 million views, the 23-year-old WNBA star said she was not impressed with the plan.
"I guess my confession is I'm really icked out by the potential new practice players,” Brink told Sydel Curry-Lee in a clip from the Monday, March 17 episode of their joint podcast, Straight to Cam.
When Curry-Lee said she hadn’t seen the March 13 post, Brink gave her an overview.
"It's basically just a flyer, it's like me, Dearica [Hamby], Rickea [Jackson], and Kelsey [Plum], and it's like 'male practice players wanted,’” Brink told the 30-year-old content creator. “And all the comments are like 'Let Cameron Brink back me down', or something about Rickea or something about Kelsey."
Brink, who joined the Los Angeles team last year, said that they normally practice with male players from the University of Southern California. The players also help the university women’s team practice.
But the comments on X have made Brink wary of who she’ll go up against at practice, she said.
“They need to go through heavy HR training,” said Curry-Lee, who is NBA star Stephen Curry’s sister.
The new male players may even impact Brink’s performance during practice, she joked on the podcast.

"Who are we trusting coming into this gym?" she said. "I'm not boxing anyone out. Lynne, our new coach, is gonna be screaming at me for not rebounding. But I'm not boxing out anyone."
While some of the comments that made Brink uncomfortable have received more than 300,000 views, other comments supporting the star player have surged in viewership.
“A lot of dudes are going to get humbled hard,” wrote one follower.
The tryouts are scheduled for April 12 in Torrance, Calif.
