Kevin O'Connell is the reigning Coach of the Year for the Minnesota Vikings and recently got a contract extension that will keep him in Minnesota for years to come. While he may be known for his football accomplishments, Kevin O'Connell the person may be an even better story to follow.
During a guest spot on the Fitz and Whit podcast hosted by Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth, Kevin O'Connell talked about his time in Washington. He specifically discussed what he experienced and offered Alex Smith when he suffered his devastating leg injury in 2018.
“I can remember going to visit him. I’d get done coaching, it’s 11 o’clock at night, and they tell me, ‘Hey, Alex has been having a tough time sleeping.’ So I get in my car and drove to the hospital to spend a couple hours with him before going back to the facility to go back to work the next day.”
