Juventus Ready to Sack Thiago Motta, Replacement Lined Up
Juventus could reportedly sack underperforming manager Thiago Motta immediately during March’s international break. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Motta won’t stand on the touchline for the upcoming home clash against Genoa.
Earlier reports suggested Juventus’ next league outing could determine the Italian’s fate in the Turin dugout. Yet, things have seemingly escalated.
Motta replaced Massimiliano Allegri at the helm last summer. However, things have rarely gone his way this season despite a dominant start in Serie A. Indeed, back-to-back defeats to Atalanta and Fiorentina on the stroke of the international window saw Juventus head into a two-week hiatus from club football outside the top four.
Already out of the Champions League and Coppa Italia, they face another trophyless season and potentially a second campaign away from Europe’s top table in three years. With nine league games to go, Juventus must bounce back and launch a substantial winning streak to beat stiff competition to the punch.
Whether Motta will be there to lead the charge remains questionable. Unless Juventus return to winning ways against bottom-half Genoa, the club could relieve the former Bologna manager of his duties. Furthermore, they’ve already found a short-term replacement for the 42-year-old in the shape of Igor Tudor.
Tudor spent nearly a decade of his playing career in Turin and could favor a return to his old stomping ground in a different capacity. In addition to the Croatian tactician, Juventus are considering ex-Inter boss Roberto Mancini as a potential solution, knowing they need a wartime manager to navigate this crisis.
Either way, Motta’s future at Juventus no longer hinges on winning the next match.
