Ivan Jurić has left Southampton with immediate effect after the club’s Premier League relegation was confirmed.

Southampton were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday after losing 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur. With seven games of the season remaining, it is the earliest a team has ever been relegated from the Premier League.

Juric was appointed as head coach in December and leaves after just 108 days in charge. The former Torino and Roma manager replaced Russel Martin but was unable to oversee a turnaround in results. Southampton took just five points from his 15 league games, a torrid run that has resulted in an instant return to the Championship.

Southampton have just 10 points for the campaign, still short of Derby County’s record-low of 11 points in 2007/08. The Saints have eight games to avoid that unwanted record.

Sky Sports are reporting that Juric’s contract at St Mary’s contained a relegation clause and the Croatian now leaves with immediate effect.
