Incoming Iona University head coach Dan Geriot gets shoutout from GOAT LeBron James
Iona University's incoming head coach Dan Geriot got a shoutout from the GOAT, LeBron James, on social media, to celebrate his hire on March 20.
King James offered an enthusiastic congratulations to former Cleveland Cavaliers coaching staffer Geriot, who spent the last two years of his time with the Cavs as an assistant coach and head of player development.
Geriot was also head coach of the NBA G League's Canton Charge from 2021-22 as part of his responsibilities in Cleveland.
James is currently the NBA's all-time leading scorer, and at-present plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Ohio-born power forward has spent much of his career with Cleveland, playing a total of 11 seasons over two separate stints.
Incoming head coach Geriot replaces Tobin Anderson, who led Iona to a 33-34 record over two seasons after taking the Gaels over from Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Pitino, who left to coach St. John's. Under Anderson, Iona reached the MAAC championship game on March 15, losing to Mount St. Mary's.
Iona has also announced its intent to hire a general manager, which would be the first in the program's history.
