While the Houston Texans feel like winners after acquiring C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Philadelphia Eagles, general manager Howie Roseman is excited to see what fourth-year offensive lineman Kenyon Green can bring to the trenches.
Acquired along with a 2026 fifth-round pick, Green is set to become the next pet project for longtime NFL offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. He's transformed countless players from bums to breakout stars in one season, including last year's rejuvenation project with Mekhi Becton from the New York Jets.
Green, a former two-time All-American at Texas A&M, has been in the NFL for three seasons and was a disappointment in Houston as a first-round pick, but now has a chance to rewrite his career, something Roseman believes is possible with Stoutland's guidence.
"Kenyon will be the first one to say that he hasn't had a start to his career that he thought he should,” Roseman said. “And just because maybe we've had success with getting some guys who have talent in their body, and just talking about the offensive line here in particular, and getting them to play at a high level, that doesn't guarantee success for the next guy. That’s got to be earned that's got to be earned through hard work that's got to be earned from performance on the field.”

Last offseason, Green worked on shedding fat and adding muscle. He returned to camp in the best shape since joining the roster, though he struggled to maintain a consistent pattern in pass protection following Week 1's win over the Indianapolis Colts. After suffering a shoulder injury in Week 9's loss to the New York Jets, he was placed on the injured reserve.
Even after returning to the active roster, Green never started another game. When the Texans lost Shaq Mason for two games late in the year, they shifted ...
