How far will the Wisconsin Badgers get in the NCAA tournament, according to readers? You might be surprised
The Wisconsin Badgers will reach the Sweet 16 in March Madness.
That was the most popular answer when we asked readers how far the third-seeded Badgers will get in the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
Of the 135 readers who answered our poll, 66 — nearly half of them — said Wisconsin will win its first two games to get the Sweet 16 before losing.
The next most popular response was that the Badgers would win one more game than that — 30 readers said they'd reach the Elite Eight.
Among the less optimistic readers, 23 said Wisconsin would win its first-round game, against Montana on Friday, before losing in the second round. Five readers said UW would lose in the first round.
Then, there's the super-optimistic group. Five said the Badgers will get to the Final Four and six said they'll win the national championship. No one said they'd get to the final and lose.
Here's a sampling of comments to go along with the predictions.
Wisconsin will lose in the first round
"If you believe this team is headed for bigger and better things, think again! Another cold shooting night, and it's all over, period."
Wisconsin will get to the second round
"They usually don't make it past the second round."
"Lousy site selection. Big advantage for BYU."
"(Coach Greg) Gard's abysmal record in previous NCAA tournaments."
"Deep run in Big Ten tournament has zapped their legs, which will lead to an early exit. And, I've seen it time and again from Gard-coached teams."
Wisconsin will get to the Sweet 16
"They have a pretty easy path to the Sweet 16."
"I think they have a bitter taste in their mouth from the Big Ten Championship. They'll get some rest and make a little run but they're in a tough bracket."
"With a few days of rest, they should shoot better than 22%. They can/should beat Montana, BYU, and/or VCU, but I don't see them getting past Alabama."
Wisconsin will get to the Elite Eight
"They have a good mix of height and outside shooting. Gard is also a good coach."
"It doesn't seem likely that they will beat four good teams in a row."
"They play great defense but eventually the shooting goes cold and the big men don't produce in the paint."
Wisconsin will get to the Final Four
"They have proven they can hang with the big boys. Not sure about the biggest boys."
Wisconsin will win the national championship
"When well-rested, they are unbeatable right now."
"Revenge over Duke and why stop there?"
"Cause I'm hopelessly devoted to you."
