Washington Capitals superstar winger Alex Ovechkin is one tally closer to breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL career goal record.
With just seven games to go in the 2024-25 regular season after Tuesday night's Washington away game against the Carolina Hurricanes, Ovechkin tallied his 892nd career goal to get within three goals of breaking Gretzky's record (and two goals of tying the record).
With Ovechkin's penchant for finding the goal, he should have a decent runway for the rest of the regular season to eventually surpass Gretzky's career goals record.
We'll see if Ovechkin is able to cross the threshold by the time the Capitals' regular season ends.
