VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness is expecting a big support from their fans in the German Cup semi-finals against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
“Our fans are very important. Their presence can make all the difference in a game like this. We hope it’ll be a really cracking atmosphere,” Hoeness said in a news conference on Tuesday.
Stuttgart will host the match as they hope to reach the Cup final for the first time since the 2012-13 season, when they were defeated by Bayern Munich.
“We’re in the semi-finals and have a great chance of reaching the final. Everything has to be geared towards that,” Hoeness said.
He added that "it's a bit more difficult for us" in terms of what to expect from the opponent because Leipzig will see new coach Zsolt Löw making his debut.
Löw was was appointed on Sunday for the rest of the campaign in succession of Marco Rose.
Leipzig are looking for a permanent coach to start the new season and Hoeness denied reports he was in touch with the rivals.
"I have only spoken with Stuttgart. I extended (my contract) with Stuttgart. I think there can't be more commitment and clarity," he stressed.
Hoeness took the job in April 2023 and last month signed a new deal until 2028.
