Highly touted freshman should get a long look from Michigan State basketball

An interesting prospect has reopened his recruitment and is now on the market in the 2025 recruiting class, posing as a potential great add for Michigan State basketball.

Acaden Lewis, one of the top guard prospects in the 2025 recruiting class, decommitted from Kentucky on Thursday. He is a highly rated 4-star prospect, ranking as the No. 30 overall player and No. 5 point guard in the nation according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

A 6-foot-3, 170 pound guard, Lewis has the ability to play the point guard position, while also being able to slide over and take an off-ball combo guard role as well. Needless to say, that is the exact role Michigan State is currently in search of.

While many expect Tom Izzo to fill this void via the transfer portal, another route that could be taken is a highly touted freshman than can step in right away. Lewis fits that bill.

Now, the role of spelling Jeremy Fears as a backup point guard, while also being able to play a good chunk of time at the 2-guard spot, there is also a connection to the MSU program and Lewis. The highly touted guard has spent his prep career time playing AAU ball for Team Durant - alongside incoming true freshman Cam Ward.

It was recently seen that Fears was able to recruit FAU transfer Kaleb Glenn to the program, could Ward do the same and pull a highly touted player at a position of need to the green and white? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain, it is a call that the Spartans should make.

While Izzo and the Spartans are still in search of that starting 2-guard, and secondary ball handler, there are a lot of prospects the Spartans are sifting through, looking to make the right decision to compete for another championship. Lewis is a prospect that should shoot near the top of that list.
