Katie Sisley and Chloe Gardner helped lift Rootstown to its first softball win, 7-2 over Windham Tuesday.
Sisley allowed a single run over four innings, striking out eight against one walk, and Gardner allowed a run in three innings with four strikeouts and no free passes.
Madison Giebel led the Rovers (1-1) at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, and Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt and Reise Thomas added a double apiece and Gardner went 2 for 3.
Canfield 9, Field 6
The Falcons gave the Cardinals, who won last year's Division II state title, a battle to start the 2025 season. Abby Harlin had three singles, Delilah Rahe had two and Kailyn Gressman and Tia Ulrich each added a double for Field (0-1).
Waterloo 7, Woodridge 6
After the Bulldogs took a one-run lead in the top of the seventh, the Vikings answered with two in the bottom of the inning to pick up their first win.
Bayley English started the rally with a leadoff single, Jolene Hampton brought English home with a game-tying triple and Kristlyn Kehrer walked it off with a single.
Brilyn Eddy and Mackenzie Marsh also singled for Waterloo (1-1), and Kehrer earned the complete-game victory in the circle.
Champion 4, Southeast 1
Gabby Gradishar silenced a potent Pirates lineup, tossing a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts and just one walk. Norah Truex doubled and Ava Stephens singled for Southeast's lone hits and Lilly Hayes tossed a complete game for the Pirates (1-1).
Garfield 12, Liberty 5
The pitchers delivered at the plate for the G-Men, with Juliana Genovese delivering a single and a home run and Olivia Bailey tacking on a homer. Emily Knerem added a single and a double for Garfield (2-0, 1-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Tier), driving in four runs.
Late Monday
Roosevelt 8, Cuyahoga Falls 7
The Rough Riders rallied from a 7-1 deficit to win their opener in dramatic fashion. Junior Kamia Green and sophomore Devin Stohovitch had a single and a double apiece, and senior Avery Gates and Skylar Lauck added RBI doubles.
Junior Brynn Moser picked up the complete-game win in the circle.
