Stephen Andren
Calhoun Christian
The senior point guard was the leading scorer and passer for a young Calhoun Christian team that went 6-16 overall. As a third-year varsity player and two-year starter and one of the key defensive standouts, Andren was a team captain. At 5-foot, 6-inches, Andren showed the ability to get to the basket as he averaged 12.6 point per game, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals. He finished fourth on the all-time career assists list at the school.
"Stephen was consistently the shortest player on the court, but still attacked the hoop strong and finished over taller defenders all year," Calhoun Christian coach Matt Andren said.
Brayden Bess
Harper Creek
A returning member of the all-city team, Brayden Bess was a senior leader on a Harper Creek team that won its first league championship since 2007, finishing in a tie for first in the Interstate 8 Conference. Bess had 11.1 points per game on a balanced scoring team with 5.1 rebounds as the Beavers were 18-6 and advanced to the district finals, earning all-league honors for a second year in a row.
"Brayden was the heart and soul of the team and engine for everything we do. He was a great competitor and one of the best leaders we have in our program," Harper Creek coach Matt Bowling said.
LeBron Campbell
Lakeview
An all-state selection last year and a returning member of the all-city team, LeBron Campbell finished an historical career at Lakeview as he helped the Spartans to back-to-back district championships and a 14-10 record overall this season. Campbell went over the 1,000-point total for his career and finished second all-time on the career scoring list for the school. The point guard averaged 23.6 points per game this season with 4.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals.
"I think he clearly goes down as one of the top players ever at Lakeview, finishing as the second all-time scorer and the second all-time in career steals. He is one of the top players I have ever coached," Lakeview coach Steve Wichmann said.
TreQuon Cotton
Harper Creek
A senior leader on a Harper Creek team that won its first league championship since 2007, finishing in a tie for first in the Interstate 8 Conference, TreQuon Cotton is a returning member of the all-city team and a two-time all-league choice. Cotton led a balanced Harper Creek attack with 12.1 points per game with 5.2 rebounds, while also being one of the top defensive players on the roster.
"Tre was a great two-way player, spearheaded our press and pressure on defense. On the offensive end, he was very tough to keep out of the paint and was relentless on the glass," Bowling said.
Jackson Dzwik
St. Philip
Jackson Dzwik was a high-scoring shooting guard for a St. Philip team that won an outright title in the Southern Central Athletic Association West Division as the Tigers went 11-1 in the league and 19-5 overall. As a junior, Dzwik has already surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career as he is a four-year varsity member. At 6-1, Dzwik led St. Philip at 18.7 points per game with 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals, earning all-league honors.
"Jackson had a phenomenal year. He was league MVP, which is a great honor. He's a heckuva player and he has been all-city three years already and next year he will be going for the sweep," St. Philip coach Mike Kimber said.
Lincoln Dzwik
St. Philip
A second-year all-city selection, Lincoln Dzwik brought important size to the St. Philip lineup as the 6-4 forward/center helped the Tigers win their first division title in more than 10 years as the team went 19-5 overall. As a junior, Dzwik was second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game and had 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, earning all-league honors.
"Lincoln had a really great year. He was our stable person in the middle of our defense. On offense, he is an old-school guy in the paint. I call him my YMCA guy, because he will be able to play until he is 75 the way he puts shots up," Kimber said.
Jackson Hardy
Lakeview
A key senior leader for Lakeview, Jackson Hardy brought good size to the frontcourt for the Spartans as a 6-5 forward. A returning starter, Hardy was a steady contributor for a Lakeview team that won back-to-back district titles and went 14-10 overall this season. Hardy averaged 7.2 points per game with 7.1 rebounds.
"Jackson had some really big games, some double-doubles. Jackson is a great young man and worked really hard and did everything we asked him to do this year," Wichmann said.
Johnathan Lake
Pennfield
The big man in the middle for Pennfield, the 6-6 Johnathan Lake helped the Panthers go from worst to first in the league as the team earned a share of the Interstate 8 Conference title, while going 18-5 overall. Lake set the school record for rebounds per game at 12.9 and led the team in scoring at 16.3 to go along with 3.4 assists and 1.6 blocks. A returning member of the all-city team, Lake also earned all-league honors during his standout junior season this year.
"Arguably, one of the top big men in the area, he works year-round on his game and had a fantastic junior season. He broke our school record for rebounds in a season. He is very deserving of being all-city," Pennfield coach Robbi Hattan said.
Braxton Liss
Harper Creek
As the team's point guard, Braxton Liss ran an efficient offense and was a senior leader for a Harper Creek team that won its first league championship since 2007, finishing in a tie for first in the Interstate 8 Conference. Liss averaged 8.1 points per game with 4.1 assists plus 1.5 steals as the Beavers went 18-6 and advanced to the district finals.
"Braxton was super steady offensively, always took care of the basketball. He never missed a start in four years in our program. Always had a knack of getting the ball in the right spot and finding the guys with the hot hand," Bowling said.
Bradyn McGill
Lakeview
Showcasing great size in the paint for Lakeview, the 6-6 Brayden McGill had a dominant senior campaign with a double-double almost every time he stepped on the floor. McGill averaged 11.9 points per game and 9.6 rebounds for a Lakeview team that went 14-10 overall and he was a starter on back-to-back district championship teams, earning all-league honors.
"He really gained confidence throughout the season and that allowed him to find himself and figure out it is OK to be big and tough and be strong. As the year went on, he was very dominant," Wichmann said.
Colt Myers
St. Philip
A senior leader on a young St. Philip team, Colt Myers brought stability to a unit that only had six varsity members at the end of the season. The 6-1 all-around athlete helped the team to an outright title in the Southern Central Athletic Association West Division as the Tigers went 11-1 in the league and 19-5 overall. A defensive force, Myers also contributed on offense with 9.9 points per game, 6.7 rebounds and a team-leading 2.6 steals and 4.0 assists.
"Stats are great, but I also look at how you impact the game. Colt can have a blank stat sheet, but he always impacts the game. It's great he was named all-city as senior because he has been a key part of this program for five years," Kimber said.
Calvin Paesens
Pennfield
One of the top shooters in the area with great size at 6-5, Calvin Paesens helped lead Pennfield to a share of the Interstate 8 Conference title as the Panthers were 18.5 overall. Paesens set a school record for 3-pointers in game with 11 and was one shy of the school record for 3-pointers in a season with 72. The junior finished with 15.2 points per game and 8.4 rebounds, earning all-league honors.
"A season of tremendous growth for Calvin. He started to find more ways to score towards the end of the year and was a huge part of our success this season," Hattan said.
Jeremiah Warren
Battle Creek Central
Jeremiah Warren brought needed experience to a young Battle Creek Central team as the senior forward was one of the few returning players on the roster that saw minutes on the court the year before. Warren, at 6-3, was an undersized forward who was still able to grab 7.1 rebounds per game to go along with 10.1 points per game for a Bearcats team that went 4-15 overall.
"His athleticism aided in his ability to attack the basket from the perimeter. And, his length contributed to his ability to finish inside. He also had the ability to knock down the outside shot, including the 3-pointer," BCC coach Durant Crum said.
